Diesel Systems for on-road applications
Commercial vehicles with Bosch diesel systems are found on all roads around the world. With comprehensive system know-how, Bosch makes light-, medium- and heavy-duty CVs more economical, cleaner and more powerful.
Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) regulates the functions of the injection system in such a way that the engine provides the demanded engine torque. The injection parameters are constantly matched to the engine and the driving situation. Engines with an electronically controlled diesel system from Bosch combine maximum dynamic performance with minimum fuel consumption and emissions.
- Cleaner and economical engine operation thanks to the rapid adaptation of all injection parameters
Common Rail System
Common Rail Systems are the state-of-the-art diesel technology. Commercial-vehicle systems have solenoid injectors for high system efficiency. Pressure is generated by CP or single-cylinder pumps. With maximum system pressure between 1,600 bar and 2,500 bar the systems can achieve stringent emission targets.
The pressurized fuel is stored in a high-pressure rail from where it is directly fed to the fuel injectors. Start and shape of each injection are defined by the opening and closing of the nozzle needle in the injector.
The rail pressure can be controlled using a pressure-limiting or pressure-control valve. The injection quantity can be corrected throughout the system lifetime through the aid of software learning functions.
- Increases fuel efficiency and subsequently reduces CO2 output
- Contributes towards achieving Euro V/VI, US 10, Tier 4, JPNLT
- High torque and efficiency at low engine speeds
- Easy integration into existing and future engine platforms
- System variants for worldwide application
CB high-pressure pumps
The CB high-pressure pumps have been specifically developed for the Emerging Markets China and India. With the CB pumps, new and existing engines, which were originally designed for distributor and mechanical in-line pumps, to be converted to future-proof Common Rail Systems. These contribute towards achieving the increasingly stricter emission limits.
The pumps of the CB family are oil-lubricated and fit for use with different fuel qualities. With 1 or 2 plungers and up to 3 lobes, they offer a wide range of possible applications. The pumps can be driven by gear, belt or chain. The system pressure and the fuel delivery rate are regulated via an electronically controlled metering unit.
A pump working on the single-plunger principle is also available. For this variant, the pump drive is supplied by the customer.
- Contribution towards achieving CN 4, BS 4, Tier 4, Euro IV emission limits
- Robust pump concept for application with different fuel qualities
- Good price-to-performance ratio
- Pump variants for easy adaptation of new or converted existing engines
Exhaust-gas treatment: Denoxtronic
Future emission legislation and test cycles will further reduce the nitrogen-oxide (NOx) emission limits. SCR systems with the Denoxtronic from Bosch help to reduce the NOx emissions while engine operation is optimized towards fuel efficiency. The Denoxtronic injects AdBlue/DEF, a solution of 32.5% urea in water, into the exhaust stream upstream of the SCR catalytic converter. Here, the nitrogen oxide is converted into water and nitrogen with the help of the AdBlue. This allows NOx emissions to be reduced by up to 95%.
The Denoxtronic Supply Module sucks the AdBlue out of the tank with a pump and compresses it for injection. The Dosing Module meters and atomizes the required quantity of AdBlue/DEF into the exhaust stream. The AdBlue/DEF dosing quantity is calculated based on ongoing engine and exhaust-system data.
- Contributes towards achieving next level of emission limits
- Simplification or omission of internal engine measures for emission reduction
- Robust design, e.g. active cooling of Dosing Module
- Compliance with various packaging and installation requirements due to flexible, modular design
- 12 or 24 V operation
Exhaust-gas treatment: Departronic
The Departronic from Bosch is a Diesel Dosing System for active regeneration of closed diesel particulate filters. The soot particles stored in the filter are burned off at regular intervals. To do this, temperatures of around 600°C are required. The Departronic achieves these temperatures with a targeted injection of diesel fuel into the exhaust stream, where the fuel is combusted. This method increases the efficiency of active regeneration and thus saves fuel.
Based on sensor signals, the control software calculates the required amount of diesel fuel. The Metering Unit is supplied with diesel fuel from the low-pressure circuit. A dosing valve in the Metering Unit meters the fuel for the Injection Unit. The particulate filter is not actively regenerated on a continuous basis but only as required.
- Robust and maintenance-free
- Longer oil-change intervals compared to internal engine regeneration measures
- Efficient regeneration thanks to the ideal adaptation of injection timing and quantity
- Control of two Bosch systems with one Dosing Control Unit is possible: Denoxtronic and Departronic
- Supply from the low-pressure circuit of the diesel injection system is possible
- 12 or 24 V operation
Heavy Duty starter motors

Generators for commercial vehicles
Reliable energy supply - for every vehicle and every electrical system
In road haulage and also in the off-highway sector, long trip times are all in a day’s work. Safety and comfort as well as a wide variety of functions are thus prime considerations. So the number of electrical consumers is correspondingly large. Bosch generators for commercial vehicles are designed for a variety of applications, cover all energy requirements and guarantee the reliable supply of the entire electrical system. In addition, their high density of performance and efficiency contribute to reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 output.
Innovative solutions for efficient thermal management
The term "thermal management" stands for the energy optimization of the vehicle's heat balance. By keeping the operating temperature of the internal combustion engine constant, it is thus possible to reduce fuel consumption and thereby also emissions.
We have in-depth knowledge of the overall thermal systems of vehicles as well as extensive experience of all applications. Combined with our know-how in the areas of aerodynamics, acoustics, electro-mechanics and electronics, we are able to develop solutions, which precisely match the performance of the cooling system in every situation to the cooling requirement of the particular engine.
